Southlands Barn, in the heart of West Sussex

Updated: Jan 13

This West Sussex Wedding had it all - from highland cows, to owls, it was packed with rustic vibes and lots of laughter. Luke & Lizzie wed outside underneath Southlands Barn's gorgeous canopy. I loved the fact they had complete run of the mill before the ceremony and during the day, they were really able to spread out and relax.

Lizzie started off getting ready in the bridal suite in the morning with her bridesmaids, bridesman and her family. Southlands Barn has a dedicated bridal area at the back of the furthest barn which has lots of light, a huge mirror with enough room for several of your party to get ready at once, toilet access and a space to hang your wedding dress. If having a dedicated on-site area to get ready is important to you, I'd definitly reccomend Southlands Barn!

The room was dressed with lots of fairy lights, and beautiful rustic details. The wedding breakfast room is able to be set up and left which takes some stress out of the day! There is a cosy courtyard area where food suppliers, ice cream suppliers and entertainment can set up and a covered bar area too.

Then there is a further barn where the cake and further decorations were set up and a space for the evening entertainment. As a whole the venue flows really well, with stunning scenery across the South Downs.

Luke has had a slight obsession with owls his whole life, and I couldn't beleive it when he said his ring bearer would be an owl. It made for some fantastic entertainment having the rings delivered by a snowy barn owl, something different for sure! After the ceremony, the guests were able to greet and hold the owls. A first for me, and I loved capturing something completely unique.

I made sure Luke & Lizzie really enjoyed their special day, and as we were blessed with some fabulous May weather, we were able to take some couple photos prior to their wedding breakfast and then as the sun was going down next to the barns lake (well it's more of a very big run off pond, but bodies of water always look stunning in wedding photos, especially when the sun hits them as it sets). Luke & Lizzie got some amazing golden hour photos, whilst having a bit of fun. I adore the way Luke looked at his new wife, it made my heart completely soar seeing how besotted he was with her.
