Putting together a Styled Bridal Shoot with £0 Budget - Part #2

Updated: May 4, 2021

This month has been a whirlwind of organisation; since my last post my family and I have moved house and my daughter has learnt to walk! She has now been walking for nearly 2 months, and has all of the bruises and scrapes to show for it. Needless to say, it has been hectic.

My ideas since my first post have chopped and changed as the month has gone on, but the shoot is this weekend and I am fully prepared! (i think...)

So, how did I pull it all together?

Firstly, I nailed down a date with Findon Manor and had a lovely chat with Wendy who is the hotel manager. We discussed both business's visions and came to the decision that what we both hoped to achieve would work perfectly at this beautiful venue.

Findon Manor is a lovely chic venue in West Sussex, it is a working hotel however when a wedding is booked out, the wedding party have full run of the mill if they wish! They have a wonderful selection of rooms, each with their own individual feel to them. The manor is licensed to hold civil ceremonies, and has 2 separate rooms to accommodate a ceremony and reception.

We are able to use the venue both Saturday and Sunday, which works well as due to Covid restrictions, we are still only allowed up to 15 people in the venue at one time. We are using Saturday to set up and iron out our final details. I put together a list of vendors required, dividing them between the day they would be needed and began reaching out and discussing the requirements. I filled the slots pretty quickly!

My next challenge was finding models; as there was just no budget for this shoot I focused on trying to find a real couple to fit the bill. I posted on my socials and was hit with more responses from people who wanted to be on board! Issy & Sam who are engaged were really enthusiastic about working with me, and seemed like a fun and natural couple. I knew Issy from secondary school in Oxford; isn't it funny how life makes you cross paths with people again?

I communicated with Issy and was able to arrange a dress fitting with Emily at Bella May Bridal, who is supplying the dress. We also managed to get ring sizes, shoes to fit both her and Sam, and a suit for the dashing 'groom'.

Jane, from JR Makeup Artistry (some of her work has been published, most recently in County Wedding Magazine so you can imagine how excited I am to work with this accomplished woman!) will be doing Issy's makeup and the Aimee from Mirror Mirror Hair & Beauty will be providing a gorgeous up-do to compliment the look.

Other Vendors

Charlotte from Charlotte Berry Jewellery & Silversmithing in Wantage, Oxfordshire has made bespoke rings for the day (due to arrive in the post any minute, they are stunning and I can't wait to see them!) We have Clare, from Clare's Cake Boutique supplying a gorgeous cake which she has put together specially, and Bryony of Bryony Mae Flowers sorting all things floral!

We also have a Videographer couple attending the day, and Bex the Celebrant who is fun, bold and I just can't wait to meet her!

The only vendor I didn't quite need in the end was an event planner, as it seemed i'd done all of the planning already! Mel however, from Scorpius Events did agree to come on board and help with styling, I met with her and Wendy last weekend to check out the venue and put together a plan of action.

Have a look at my Crib Sheet and Timeline for ideas on how I put together a PDF of Information for the team!

After I put together my shot list & timeline, I sent this out to all vendors and liaised with them to make sure we were all on the same page.

My final to do lists this evening include:

  • Cleaning my camera & equipment, leaving it by the back door ready to go!

  • Clearing all memory cards, charging batteries

  • One final message to all suppliers

  • Ensure I have all items ready to take to venue (board for flat lay styling, flat lay styling props, lighting rig as its due to rain and we may not get the best light, Shoes & other accessories)

  • Print off extra timelines & shot lists

  • Tidy my office ready for a bombardment of photo editing next week!

Final Vision; fewer rich burgundies and more greens and pinks

Stay tuned for part 3, a final show down on how the day has gone!
